Combined Federal Campaign

PET International is an authorized charity for the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is similar to the United Way in that all US Governmental employees (civilian and military, current or retired) can easily make contributions designated to specific charities or shared across all charities listed in the CFC. Please forward this news to your Federal Governmental friends and ask they consider designating PET International (CFC #38749) as one of their charities of choice.

National Instrument Company Meeting Expo

We had the opportunity to set up a booth at the National Instrument Company Meeting Expo that was held at Gateway Church.  This was an opportunity to introduce PET-Austin to the employees of National Instrument and make them aware of the volunteer opportunities with PET-Austin.

PETs for Mexico - Part 2

We left Austin early in the morning with 20 PETs on a trailer.  We met the PET- San Antonio group who had an additional 16 PETs.  From there we proceeded to deliver the PETs to PET – Rio Grande Valley to be later delivered into Mexico and distributed by the Lions Club there.   The PETs were delivered to an importer’s warehouse in Hidalgo, TX, where they will be staged until the Lions Club can complete the proper paperwork for importation into Mexico.

PETs for Mexico

We recently received a call from PET Rio Grande Valley (Mission, TX) for help with providing PETs to a Lions Club in Mexico.  A total of 50 PETs will be sent to be distributed.  PET Austin is providing 20, PET San Antonio is providing 20 and PET RGV is providing 10.  The PETs are now ready to go and will be shipping within the next two weeks.

Another Lenten Challenge Met

For the fourth year in a row, Tom Deviney challenged Bethany’s congregation to raise the funds ($10,000) and assist PET to build a PET for every day of Lent (40 PETs).  Now that the dust has settled, Bethany raised over $12,000 and we were able to build 41 PETs.  Thanks to everyone that had a part in this success.

PETS for Nigeria

Today we loaded 35 PETs that will go to Norfolk, VA to become a part of a 490 PET shipment that will be delivered by the Navy.  Through their Project Handclasp, they deliver medical supplies to countries around the world.  When Navy supply ships go out to resupply our active duty ships at sea and are making port somewhere where supplies (in our case PETs) are needed and they have space available, the deliveries are made at no cost to the charitable provider.  This is great for PET considering that we have to pay between $3,000 and $4,000 for a overseas container that will carry only 76 PETs.  Go Navy!!

Up-coming Work Days

We may not have a shop but we do have a commitment; the Bethany Lenten Challenge. Members of Bethany have already contributed well over half of the $10,000 needed to build 40 PETs for Lent. To accomplish this goal we will be having workdays in the parking lot at Bethany this Saturday (March 24) from 9:00 till 3:00 and again the following Saturday (March 31) at the same time. We were able to make many of the parts needed before the shop had to move into storage and part making is still going on in various garages in Northwest Austin. Come out and help us paint, assemble and pack those 40 PETs.
